Class Itinerary
After you sign up for one of our courses (CFSC or CRFSC) you should receive an email with a recap with some relavent information for you: what to bring, where to go, when to come, how much it costs, etc.
On the day of the course, what can you expect? Keep following to find out the general outline and flow of a typical Firearm Safety Course with us.
1. Arrival
Information Form
Upon arrival, we will ask you to find a seat and give you a form to fill out. This form will ask for basic personal information: name, birthdate, address, etc. It will also require you to show government-issued photo identification (driver’s license, passport, status card, etc), so please bring some. Two pieces of non-photo ID are also acceptable (birth certificate, health card, etc).
Payment
We will announce when payment will need to be made, usualy this is done once all students have arrived and forms have been filled out. If receipts are needed, please pay with credit or debit card for fastest results. Otherwise we can email you a receipt later.
Course costs:
- Non-Restricted (CFSC) = $175
- Restricted (CRFSC) = $175, or $125 if done within 7 days of CFSC
2. Lecture
After the forms and payments are complete, we will progress with the lecture portion of the day. This is slated to take 6-8 hours (depending which class you attend), so please bring what you need to be comfortable for sitting that long. The lecture covers a number of modules provided by the RCMP to us to teach. We will usually take a short break every hour. We also break for lunch around noon for 20-30 minutes or until everyone gets back. During this time, we encourage all students to spend some time handling the disabled firearms and ammunition. This will help with the testing at the end of the day.
Lecture Tips:
- Bring water, coffee/tea, snacks
- Pack a lunch (especially for High Bluff courses). Most locations we teach at don’t have microwaves, so cold lunches are advised.
- Dress in layers
- Take a short walk during breaks
- Download the textbook and follow along on your phone, tablet or laptop (do this ahead of time, as some venues don’t have wi-fi)
- Feel free to take notes! Pencil and paper, note-taking app on your phone, Word on a laptop. Notes can help you remember certain specifics and you can always reference them later.
- Ask questions! Our instructors are here to help you out. We will do our best to answer questions that we can or point you in the right direction if we can’t.
3. Testing
After the lecture is over students will need to complete 2 tests: a written test, followed by a practical test. The pass mark needed for each is 80%, which works out to 10 mistakes per test. All relevant material will be covered throughout the lecture.
Written Test
The written test consists of 50 questions: 25 are true/false and 25 are multiple choice. You’re allowed to get up to 10 wrong and still pass. Most of the questions pertain to safety, some focus on the technical aspects covered throughout the day, and others are related to law.
Practical Test
The practical test challenges students to identify specific actions, ammunition types, and explain some specific scenerios that we will cover in the lecture portion of the class. If you follow ACTS/PROVE, you will most-likely pass. Pointing a firearm at the instructor or anyone else is an automatic failure.
4. Passed! What’s next?
After you finish your tests, the instructors will mark them and give you back the form you filled out at the beginning of the day. Don’t leave without this form! It’s how you will be eligible to apply for your license!
After receiving your form, you will be eligible to apply for your license. There are some handy links on this page to get you started or you can check out our Apply page for more information about next steps.
Next Steps!
Now that you’ve completed and passed the course, you are eligible to apply for your Possession and Acquisition License (PAL or RPAL).
