Frequently Asked Questions

Learning materials
We do not provide physical text books, but if you’d like you can find a free PDF version on the RCMP website. Feel free to download on your phone/tablet or print out and bring it to the course if you’d like to follow along.
PAL Application Process

To obtain a firearms license (PAL), you are required to take a Canadian Firearms Safety Course (CFSC). For a Restricted license you will need to complete the Canadian Restricted Firearms Safety Course (CRFSC). To take the Restricted course, you must complete the Non-Restricted course first. We recommend doing them close together to save some time and money, as you will only need to send in one application if you do both courses.

After the lecture portion of the course is complete, there are two tests: a written test and a practical test. Both tests require an 80% or higher to pass.

Upon completion of the respective course and passing all applicable tests,  you are eligible to apply for the respective license. We will provide all forms and information you will need to send in your application. NOTE: there will be a fee to send with your application as well.

After sending your application, the Firearms Office will run a background check on your history. If found satisfactory, you should receive your license within a few months.

Applications can be filed online at the following link:

Hunter Safety
Hunter Safety is NOT needed to receive a PAL. They are independant courses/licenses.

If you intend to hunt, we occasionally teach Hunter Safety courses as well, but strongly suggest you do it online.

Visit the MWF site for more information.

Course prices?

CFSC (Non-Restricted) is $175 per person.

CRFSC (Restricted) is $175. If CFSC was taken within 7 days prior, the cost is usually $125.

After completing the course, there is an additional fee that needs to be sent in with your application.
